Cannabis is medicine. It can also be fun.
Either way, once it comes home from The Healing Club, you’re in charge of how safe (or unsafe) it becomes.
This guide walks you through:
- Using cannabis responsibly
- Keeping kids, teens, and pets safe
- Storing flower, edibles, vapes, and concentrates the right way
- A few “grown-up rules” around driving, alcohol, and guests
Quick note: This is educational only, not medical or legal advice. Always follow Oklahoma law and your medical program rules, and talk to a qualified professional about your health.
Part 1: Core Rules of Responsible Use
Let’s start with the basics that apply to everyone.
1. Know When Not to Use
Cannabis and these things do not mix well:
- Driving or operating machinery
- Watching kids alone
- Being “on call” for emergencies
- Big responsibilities where you need full judgment
Simple rule:
If you wouldn’t have a couple strong drinks before doing it, don’t get high before doing it.
Use cannabis after responsibilities are covered, not in the middle of them.
2. Know How Much You’re Taking
“Winging it” is how people scare themselves.
Rough starting points for many adults (everyone is different):
- Edibles:
- 2.5–5 mg THC = beginner / microdose range
- 5–10 mg THC = standard “one gummy” range for many
- Flower / Vapes:
- 1–2 small puffs, wait 10–15 minutes, then decide if you want more
If you don’t know how strong something is, treat it like it’s strong:
“Start lower than you think you need, and give it time to kick in.”
3. Don’t Mix with Alcohol as a Beginner
Cannabis + alcohol can:
- Increase absorption
- Make you more disoriented than either alone
- Increase the chance of nausea, anxiety, or a bad time
Especially if you’re still figuring out your dose, it’s safest to keep them separate.
Part 2: Keeping Kids & Teens Safe
This is non-negotiable.
1. Treat Cannabis Like Prescription Medicine
That means:
- Never call it “candy” around kids—especially edibles.
- Don’t leave jars, carts, or gummies where “a curious kid” could explore.
- Don’t assume “they won’t touch it” because you trust them.
If it looks good, kids and teens will experiment. Your job is to make that as hard as possible.
2. Use Child-Resistant & Locked Storage
Good practices:
- Keep products in their original child-resistant packaging whenever possible.
- Use a lockbox, small safe, or dedicated locked cabinet for:
- Edibles (top priority)
- Vapes & carts
- Flower & concentrates
Even a simple lockable toolbox or locking cash box is far better than leaving things in drawers.
3. Talk to Teens Honestly
You don’t have to give a lecture, but you also don’t want mystery.
Core messages:
- Cannabis is for adults with fully developed brains, and for legal medical use.
- It’s stored and used like medicine in your home.
- They should never take anything—edible, vape, or joint—unless it’s prescribed to them and given by you or a doctor.
Honesty + boundaries > secrecy and guessing.
Part 3: Pet Safety (Because They Will Eat Your Edibles)
Dogs and cats don’t know what an infused gummy is. They just know it smells sweet.
Rules:
- Never leave edibles, vapes, or joints on coffee tables, couches, or nightstands.
- Store trash that has roaches, carts, or edible wrappers somewhere pets can’t get.
- If your pet eats cannabis, call a vet or pet poison hotline right away.
Cannabis isn’t “cute” for pets. It can be scary and dangerous for them.
Part 4: Storing Different Product Types Correctly
Flower
Goals: Keep it fresh, potent, and out of reach.
Best practice:
- Store in airtight glass jars with tight lids.
- Keep in a cool, dark place (closet, cabinet—not a hot car, window, or dashboard).
- Consider using a humidity pack to keep bud from getting crispy or too wet.
- Store jars in a locked drawer or lockbox if kids/teens are around.
Avoid:
- Long-term plastic baggies
- Leaving jars open “for smell”
- Heat, bright light, and constant air exposure
Edibles
Highest-risk category for kids and pets.
Best practice:
- Keep in original child-resistant packaging.
- Store that packaging inside a lockbox or locked cabinet.
- Do not mix infused and non-infused snacks in the same area.
Extra safety step: Label the box clearly:
“MEDICATED – ADULTS ONLY”
Vapes & Cartridges
Best practice:
- Separate batteries and carts if you have kids or teens.
- Store both in a locked space when not in use.
- Keep away from direct sun and high heat (which can degrade oil and cause leaks).
Also:
- Avoid leaving vapes where guests or teens can “test a puff” without you knowing.
Concentrates (Dabs, Wax, Rosin, RSO, etc.)
These are very potent and often look like generic oils or food ingredients.
Best practice:
- Store in their original containers with labels intact.
- Keep them in the same locked storage as edibles.
- Never leave dab tools, jars, or RSO syringes on counters or coffee tables.
Think of concentrates as “high-strength medicine”—not something that should ever be left out.
Part 5: Guests, Parties & Social Use
You might be responsible even if others aren’t.
1. Make Cannabis Use Clear and Contained
If you’re having people over:
- Decide where cannabis is allowed (porch, one room, outside, etc.).
- Keep infused and non-infused snacks separate.
- Don’t let random people dig through your stash.
2. Don’t Surprise Anyone
Never:
- Dose someone’s food or drink without their consent.
- Pressure someone to “just try a gummy” if they’re unsure.
Always:
- Be clear about what’s infused and how strong it is.
- Let people choose their own pace—or not use it at all.
3. Have a “Safe Ride” Plan
Same rule as alcohol:
- No driving impaired.
- Use ride-shares, designated drivers, or sleep-overs as needed.
- If someone is too high to be functional, do not let them drive, even if they insist.
You want your house to be remembered as the safe, responsible spot, not the “I got so high and drove home” story.
Part 6: Simple “House Rules” You Can Use
You can literally adopt or tweak these:
- Cannabis stays locked up when not in use.
- No cannabis + driving. Period.
- No cannabis if you’re the primary adult with kids at that moment.
- Edibles never live where regular snacks live.
- Guests get clear info and can always say no.
- We start low, go slow, and respect our own limits.
If you live with others, talk these through and put them in writing if you want to make it crystal clear.
How The Healing Club Fits Into Safe & Responsible Use
